How is buying DigiGold different to buying coins or bars?

DigiGold gives you direct ownership of physical gold without needing to buy a whole coin or bar. You can invest from as little as £25 and in increments of 0.001 oz.

Unlike buying individual coins or bars, DigiGold does not require a separate physical product to be made for each customer. Instead, you own a share of a larger gold bar stored in The Royal Mint’s vault. This can help keep the costs lower.

You can also buy or sell the amount you choose, rather than having to purchase or sell a whole coin or bar.

For UK customers, there are also differences in tax treatment. Qualifying UK legal tender bullion coins are exempt from Capital Gains Tax, whereas DigiGold does not benefit from this exemption in its own right. Qualifying investment gold is exempt from VAT.

The Royal Mint also offers Digital Silver and Digital Platinum. Physical silver and platinum bullion is generally subject to VAT, while no VAT is payable on the purchase or sale of Digital Silver or Digital Platinum.
